Care Work and Livelihoods: SWID's Approach to Women's Economic Empowerment
Caregiving is work — and it often means women can't leave home to earn an income. SWID (Slum Women's Initiative for Development) in Uganda is changing that.
By supporting grassroots women caregivers with skills training, mentorship, and guidance on home-based livelihoods — from kitchen gardening and baking to animal rearing — SWID is helping women build economic independence without leaving behind those who depend on them.
Because sustainable livelihoods and care shouldn't be a trade-off.
