Sandy Schilen, Executive Director of the Huairou Commission, and Violet Shivutse, Global Chair and African Region Representative on HC's Governing Council, explain what makes the Huairou Commission different: grassroots women themselves sit in the decision-making seats, shaping where resources go and how they're used. The Huairou Commission is a global movement linking grassroots women's organizations advancing sustainable development, climate adaptation, and women's empowerment from the local level up to the United Nations. Through strategies like the Community Resilience Fund, Community Practitioners Platform, and Communities of Practice, the majority of funding flows directly to local groups in rural and poor urban communities — not to the secretariat.
