#CHA25 Panel 3: Weathering the Storm
Panel 3 addressed the massive funding cuts and an overall loss of legitimacy by international institutions which make up the current crisis within the humanitarian sector. In response, some actors try to cling to the status quo – either maintaining “business as usual” as much as possible or making only minimal changes – while others view the current moment as a call for genuine systemic transformation. Locally led and intermediary funding mechanisms are seen by many as a way to make humanitarian action both more legitimate and efficient. In this session, the panelists discussed the different modalities of locally led intermediary funding mechanisms – from grassroots funds to reformed international structures – and their implications for the wider humanitarian system.
