In 1994, under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, the International Seabed Authority was established to protect and ensure the equitable management of mineral resources in the Area, while advancing marine scientific research, capacity building, knowledge exchange and sustainability. 30 years later, ISA continues to drive progress in research, innovation, technology, governance and responsible exploration, building a global framework that benefits all humankind.
