With the support of the Gates Foundation and the Zenex Foundation, UNICEF and the Department of Basic Education are championing the ‘Early Grade Reading Programme’ in South Africa. The aim is to improve the overall quality of teaching and, in turn, learning across key foundational learning areas: early childhood development, reading and literacy in home languages, and numeracy. This is the story of the meaningful impact of this work in the Northern Cape province.
