[Co-CREATE Forum] Synthesis Discussion & Closing Plenary
We welcome you to the plenaries of the Co-CREATE Forum on Solar Radiation Modification Research Governance, livestreamed on 27–29 May 2026 from Brussels, Belgium.
Disclaimer: We ask everyone to be aware of the conference’s code of conduct, noting that anyone not complying with these principles will be expelled from the livestream.
Session Description: Synthesis Discussion
In this livestreamed session, participants will share their takeaways from the parallel sessions taking place on the first day of the Co-CREATE Forum, held in-person under Chatham House rules.
Session Description: Closing Plenary - Insights, Tensions, and Implications for Responsible SRM Research Governance
This first-day closing plenary invites five distinguished speakers to reflect on the key insights, tensions, and surprises emerging from day 2 roundtables and the preceding synthesis plenary. Building on the visual harvesting displayed behind the panel, each speaker will offer a short reaction to a specific observation from the synthesis session, followed by brief responses from session rapporteurs. The floor then opens for participants to raise questions, provocations, and concerns, ensuring that diverse voices help articulate what still feels unresolved. The session closes by drawing a line toward Day 3, highlighting how these reflections can feed directly into the co-creation labs and the further development of principles, guidelines, and decision-support frameworks for SRM research governance.
Speakers:
• Matthias Honegger (Senior Research Consultant, Perspectives Climate Research)
• Julia Guivant (Full Professor, Federal University of Santa Catarina)
• Olivia Lazard (Fellow, Berggruen Institute)
• David Olufemi Awolala (Director, African Group of Negotiators Experts Support)
• Jeroen Oomen (Assistant Professor, Utrecht University)
About the Co-CREATE Forum:
The Co-CREATE Forum on Solar Radiation Modification Research Governance is organised as part of Co-CREATE, a project funded by the European Union under Horizon Europe and by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). Co-CREATE brings together a consortium of European institutions. Over three years, we are working with policymakers, research funders, ethics committees, and stakeholders worldwide to develop principles, guidelines, and decision-support frameworks for responsible SRM research governance. The Forum aims to inform the project’s work, contributing to an integrated set of principles, guidelines, and decision-support frameworks for policymakers, funders, and ethics bodies. This ensures responsible SRM research and governance aligned with European and global public interests.
