Clean water access for communities in Chad – UNICEF Chad - Veolia Foundation - Flexport.org - 2024

The lack of clean water in Chad is a serious health challenge for communities escaping conflict in surrounding and inside countries. A private-public sector partnership has provided a solution to this issue. In February 2024, two Aquaforce 2000 water treatment units were installed in the Baga Sola and Bol communities located in the Lake Chad region. Whilst Flexport.org facilitated the transport of the units from France to Tchad, the Veolia Foundation team travelled to Chad to train local community members on how to use the machines and oversee their installation. The two water treatment units can each supply 20 litres of clean drinking water daily per person for 2,4000 people – as such 4000people now have easy access to quality drinking water. This project is a unique example of complementary private-public sector collaboration uniting three different partners: the Veolia Foundation, Flexport.org and UNICEF. The Veolia Foundation team provided in-kind support through the donation of the two water purification machines and skills sponsorship through a 2-week training programme for local community leaders allowing an autonomy in how to use and maintain the machines. Flexport.org provided logistical support by managing the shipment of the two machines from Paris to Chad. The trip was coordinated and facilitated by various UNICEF teams: UNICEF Chad, Standby Partnerships, Supply Division and Private Fundraising and Partnerships team. The importance of this type of partnership goes beyond the delivery of results; it represents a new era in collaboration between humanitarian organizations and the private sector. Through strategic and innovative partnerships like this one with Veolia Foundation and Flexport.org, humanitarian efforts can be amplified, and aid delivery can become more efficient. As such, UNICEF hopes this partnership can inspire other private sector players to consider such initiatives. Vidéo: Rooftop Productions.
