Transforming Maternal & Newborn Health in Makadara & Kamukunji, Nairobi Kenya
In Nairobi’s densely populated sub-counties of Makadara and Kamukunji, thousands of mothers, newborns, and young children face life‑threatening barriers to accessing essential health services. This documentary explores how Save the Children Kenya, CFK Africa, and the Nairobi City County Health teams are working together to change this reality.
From global progress in maternal and newborn health to Kenya’s ongoing challenges, the film illustrates why targeted community and facility‑level interventions remain urgently needed. Through the voices of community health promoters, healthcare workers, government officials, and mothers, we see how improved awareness, strengthened health systems, and renovated Kangaroo Mother Care units are transforming care for vulnerable families.
Between March 2024 and September 2025, the MNCH project reported tangible impact, reflecting improved access and better service delivery at both community and facility levels.
Beyond the numbers, this documentary elevates powerful personal stories—mothers whose lives have been changed, health workers delivering respectful and lifesaving care, and local leaders dedicated to sustaining progress.
This is a story of partnership, resilience, and hope — and a reminder that every mother and every child deserves the chance to survive and thrive.
