How can postal operators in Europe and CIS adapt to new challenges and seize opportunities for growth? In this video, Mario Gonzalez Montiel, UPU Programme Manager, Europe and CIS, discusses the key challenges and opportunities shaping postal development in the region, from declining traditional mail volumes and rising competition to new customer expectations and evolving regional regulations. At the same time, the region is seeing major opportunities through the growth of e-commerce, parcel services, last-mile delivery, service diversification, sustainable logistics, digital transformation and stronger regional cooperation. The Regional Development Plan for Europe and CIS responds to the region’s evolving needs through a coordinated and inclusive approach, developed in close consultation with member countries, regional unions and key stakeholders. It focuses on three core pillars: supply chain development, innovation and digitalization, bringing together postal operators, regulators and ministries to address both operational and policy challenges. Through targeted activities, the plan supports service diversification, last-mile delivery, artificial intelligence, disaster risk management and strengthening of the postal sector’s role in public policy.
