UN Expert: As the Private Military and Security Industry Grows, So Do Human Rights Risks

On 27 April 2026, Michelle Small, Chairperson-Rapporteur of the United Nations Working Group on the use of mercenaries, took the floor on the first day of the 7th session of the UN open-ended intergovernmental working group to elaborate an international regulatory framework relating to the activities of private military and security companies. The 7th session of the intergovernmental working group took place at the United Nations Office at Geneva from 27 to 30 April 2026.
