On 14 April 2026, Don Souma, a group of performing artists from Burkina Faso who blend afro-contemporary, traditional, hip-hop and classical dance styles, opened the 5th session of the Permanent Forum for People of African Descent at the UN in Geneva. The Permanent Forum on People of African Descent was established by the United Nations General Assembly on 2 August 2021 as a consultative mechanism for people of African descent and other relevant stakeholders, and serves as a platform to improve the safety and quality of life and livelihoods of people of African descent, as well as an advisory body to the Human Rights Council.
