On 15 April 2026, Verene Shepherd, vice-chair of the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), spoke at the 5th session of the Permanent Forum for People of African Descent at the UN in Geneva.
The Permanent Forum on People of African Descent was established by the United Nations General Assembly on 2 August 2021 as a consultative mechanism for people of African descent and other relevant stakeholders, and serves as a platform to improve the safety and quality of life and livelihoods of people of African descent, as well as an advisory body to the Human Rights Council.
