Fight Against Racism: Some Progress Achieved, but Difficult Truths Persist, UN Expert Says

On 6 May 2026, the United Nations Group of Independent Eminent Experts on the Implementation of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action (DDPA) held a thematic discussion on “Commemorating 25 Years of the DDPA: Strengthening Implementation and Closing the Gaps.” Salome Mbugua, member and Chair of the Group of Independent Eminent Experts, introduced the discussion. The event formed part of the 12th session of the Group of Independent Eminent Experts, held at the United Nations Office at Geneva. The DDPA is the UN’s comprehensive blueprint for combating racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related intolerance worldwide. The Group of Independent Eminent Experts functions as an advisory mechanism for the UN Human Rights Council and the UN General Assembly on the implementation of the DDPA. It works towards mobilizing global political will for concrete action to implement the DDPA. #fightracism #DDPA25
