ILO: Racial Discrimination Still Shapes the World of Work

On 6 May 2026, Chidi King, Chief of the Gender, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Branch at the International Labour Organization (ILO) and Martin Oelz, Senior Specialist on Equality and Non-Discrimination in the Gender, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Branch at the ILO, participated in a thematic discussion on "Commemorating 25 Years of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action: Strengthening Implementation and Closing the Gaps." The discussion was organized by the United Nations Group of Independent Eminent Experts on the Implementation of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action during its 12th session held at the United Nations Office at Geneva. The Group of Independent Eminent Experts functions as an advisory mechanism for the UN Human Rights Council and the UN General Assembly on the implementation of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action. It works towards mobilizing global political will for concrete action to implement the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action. The International Labour Organization (ILO) is devoted to promoting social justice and internationally recognized human and labour rights, pursuing its founding mission that social justice is essential to universal and lasting peace. The ILO pioneered human rights through standard-setting, before the birth of the United Nations and the articulation of human rights. The Gender, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Branch at the ILO is responsible for promoting gender equality and inclusion, respect for diversity and managing the ILO’s programme on HIV and AIDS and the world of work. #fightracism #DDPA25
