Stolen heritage: UNESCO urges restitution of African cultural property

On 15 April 2026, Krista Prikkat, Director of Culture and Emergencies at @UNESCO, spoke at the 5th session of the Permanent Forum for People of African Descent at the UN in Geneva. The Permanent Forum on People of African Descent was established by the United Nations General Assembly on 2 August 2021 as a consultative mechanism for people of African descent and other relevant stakeholders, and serves as a platform to improve the safety and quality of life and livelihoods of people of African descent, as well as an advisory body to the Human Rights Council.
