Field Epidemiology Training Program Battle Outbreaks for a Safer World
Field epidemiology is described as investigations initiated in response to urgent public health problems, to guide the processes of selecting and implementing interventions to lessen or prevent illness or death. Field epidemiologists played a critical role in the COVID-19 pandemic, engaging in different aspects of the response, including (a) coordination, planning, financing & monitoring, (b) surveillance, contact tracing, and case investigations, as well as (c) specific technical areas such as points of entry and risk communication. As a proven success story of global health interventions, FETPs must be sustained and scaled up to continue providing critical support to the population’s health and global health security.
