Launching Saint Lucia's first Aquaponics Facility led by Persons with Disabilities.
With funding from the GEF Small Grants Programme at UNDP, and other donors and partners, on the 31st August 2025, the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD), opened Saint Lucia's first Aquaponics Facility. In attendance were the Prime Minister, other Ministers, GEF SGP UNDP and other donors and local partners.
The production plant has a hybrid solar system that produces more electricity than it can consume and a small rainwater harvesting system. Currently, the project employs three Persons with Disabilities and generates a net profit of over US$1,111 per month. The maximum production is approximately 1,600 heads of lettuce per month.
