This event will launch a new global guidance: “Safe Disposal of Unused Medicines – A One Health Approach for National Systems” published by UNEP to support countries in strengthening national systems for the safe disposal of unused medicines through a One Health approach. Improper disposal of unused medicines can pose significant risks to both the environment and public health such as antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Despite increasing awareness, important gaps remain in how unused medicines are managed across households, healthcare facilities and agricultural production systems.
