Rights. Justice. Action. | A Story of Resilience with Hajara Adamu
Rights. Justice. Action. For all women and girls.
In many communities where we work, the barrier to education isn't just tuition—it’s safety. In this video, Hajara Adamu shares a powerful story of resilience from a community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nigeria.
Imagine a community where the nearest school is 5km away. For girls, that trek was filled with the threat of violence and sexual assault. Parents were forced to keep their children home until they were 11 or 12 years old, hoping their physical size would offer some protection.
This is the story of Zulekha.
Once a survivor of early marriage who had lost all hope, Zulekha became an ActionAid Community Champion. Recently, she called Hajara with news: her daughter is getting married. But this wasn't a repeat of the past. Her daughter is a student at the College of Education, preparing for a future she chose for herself.
This #InternationalWomensDay, we are fundraising to bring this change to more communities. We invite you to be part of this story and invest in the power of women.
