Updated to include Arabic subtitles (go into Closed Caption settings to switch on) The civil war in Sudan, a conflict between the RSF and SAF, analysed using open source investigative techniques (OSINT). By reviewing thousands of videos and satellite images from Sudan since April 2023, the Sudan Witness team at CIR has been able to document an increase of incidents of fires and fire damage across the country, many linked to videos posted by fighters filming themselves and sharing them on social media. Most videos show men, affiliated to the paramilitary group the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) - led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (also known as Hemedti) - who are waging war against the Sudanese army (SAF), led by army general Abdel Fattah al-Burhan. In this film, using OSINT investigative techniques, we show just how much evidence can be gathered from these online sources, giving a unique perspective on how fire is used as a weapon in the ongoing war in Sudan.
