Strengthening climate resilience in agricultural finance

Agriculture drives ~32% of Ethiopia’s GDP but is highly vulnerable to droughts and floods. 🌾🌍 In April 2026, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Cooperative Bank of Oromia (Coopbank) formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to embed climate insurance in agri‑loans, boosting farmer resilience. This strategic partnership aims to bridge the agricultural financing gap by embedding climate insurance directly into the bank’s lending operations. The partnership marks a significant step toward integrating insurance into agricultural lending. The initiative is supported by UNDP’s Insurance and Risk Finance Facility (IRFF) under the Financial Resilience in Agriculture (FRA) programme.
