Land Leasing Guidelines: The Story of Tabitha Savala
Shibuye Community Health Workers is a grassroots women-led organization in Kakamega, Kenya. Their Community-Led Land Leasing Guidelines formalize previously informal land agreements, providing security for women and reducing conflicts.
Tabitha Savala knows firsthand the instability of informal leasing. One day when she went to plough, she discovered the landowner had leased her plot to someone else who offered more money.
With the security of formalized lease agreements through Shibuye's guidelines, Tabitha has not only stabilized her own farming but now helps other widows in her community. Together, they've formed support groups where women strengthen each other. "I am strong in the community thanks to Shibuye," she says.
This is community-led innovation creating lasting change.
