INVESTING IN SECURITY, BUILDING THE FUTURE

In the Nippes department, a regional police coordination center is being established to strengthen the operational capacity of the Haitian National Police and improve security in a strategic area linking the South, Grand’Anse, the West, and the South-East. Conceived first and foremost as a practical working tool, the center aims to facilitate operational coordination, information sharing, and intervention planning in an area that has until now lacked adequate infrastructure. The site will include a 1,000 m² facility built on a secure 21,000 m² plot, equipped with modern features: biometric systems, temporary detention spaces compliant with international standards, audio-video recording devices, and medical facilities. The architecture has been designed to support efficient operational flows and the day-to-day work of teams. Beyond construction, the objective is clear: to enhance the effectiveness, coordination, and professionalism of police action in a pivotal region of the country. The project is jointly led by UNDP, which is responsible for technical implementation, the Government of Japan, a strategic and financial partner, and the Haitian National Police, which will assume operational management. The center is expected to become operational by early 2027 at the latest. Ultimately, nearly half a million people are expected to benefit from better coordinated and more accessible police services. This initiative is part of UNDP’s Support Programme for the Haitian National Police, which aims to strengthen institutional governance, training and recruitment, operational capacities, and the fight against organized crime and gang violence, with the support of several international partners.
