Milestones of Young Gamechangers Initiative in Jatni & What's Next!!
Under the #YoungGamechangersInitiative in India, the youth of Jatni, Odisha, have been assessing the city’s public spaces; proposing innovative design solutions; listening to feedback; and pitching their refined ideas to the community and officials to adapt urban plans and regulations.
Together with the community, they have been able to accomplish the following:
• Collected spatial data for 20 public spaces in Jatni and interviewed over 220 community members using Kobo Toolbox
• Analyzed site-specific information for two shortlisted 2 public spaces via Inhabit Place tool interviewing over 60 visitors of the spaces
• Co-designed over 15 Minecraft site models and short videos for the 2 public spaces to pitch to officials and experts
• Conducted a city-wide participatory budgeting campaign with 2700+ votes cast by residents to identify urgent upgrades needed
• Organized multiple awareness campaigns and events to boost youth and community health, safety, and wellbeing
With top voted community interventions identified, detailed architectural drawings, masterplans, budget estimates, and construction-related procedures are now being finalized in collaboration with government officials and project partners. With 4 out of 5 YGI co-working studios now complete, stay tuned for the final Tactical Placemaking studio activities to demonstrate the shaping of the public spaces through collective design and decision-making processes!
