What does justice mean to you? - Mariana Paoli, Oxfam
📣 “Justice is about the Global North repaying their climate debt, is about reparations, is about their fair share of finance, for those communities who have done the least to cause climate change and, yet, are the most affected.”
— 🗣️ Mariana Paoli, Oxfam
💰 The Global North has a moral obligation to repay the climate and ecological debt owed to the Global South.
👎 There is a disproportionate gap between countries that are responsible for most of the historic and present carbon and greenhouse emissions, colonialist dynamics, and uneven exploitation of resources, and those that are suffering from the consequences of those actions.
🔍 For example, Small Island Developing States (SIDS) contribute less than one per cent to the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, but they are amongst the countries that are the most affected by climate change and #debt vulnerabilities.
