Food Fads and Facts: What Should You Eat?
Distinguishing evidence-based nutritional recommendations from fads isn’t easy. One moment vegan diets are promoted as the clear pathway to health and the next, protein-heavy meals are the rage. Seed oils are out, beef tallow is in, according to some influencers. The definition of an ultra-processed food remains contested, and the updated food pyramid has drawn both praise and criticism. But amidst the noise, nutrition science is steadily building knowledge that can produce good health outcomes. What policies will actually nudge the food system to make healthier food more accessible and smart choices easier?
Aspen Ideas: Health takes place on the Aspen Institute’s wondrous 40-acre campus in the Rocky Mountains from June 22-25, 2026.
The three-day event, which has opened the renowned Aspen Ideas Festival since 2014, is where health’s biggest challenges meet its biggest thinkers. #AspenIdeasHealth #AspenIdeas
