Review of NTP’s Report on Carcinogens Handbook on Methods for Conducting Cancer Hazard Evaluations
The US National Toxicology Program (NTP) recently released a new Handbook detailing the steps and processes it follows to determine which chemicals or exposures may pose a cancer hazard to humans.
The Updated Report on Carcinogens Handbook on Methods for Conducting Cancer Hazard Evaluations explains how NTP systematically reviews scientific research to identify substances for inclusion in the Report on Carcinogens (RoC), a science-based public health document which lists substances known, or reasonably anticipated, to cause cancer in humans, and which influences policies and regulations across the US and globally.
In this ECHA seminar, two of the leading authors of this Handbook, Dr. Ruth Lunn and Dr. Suril Mehta will present and discuss the new Handbook and guide us through some of the key features of this revised edition, such as
advances in the systematic review process
innovative approaches to appraise the evidence from mechanistic studies
and methods to incorporate evidence from different types of scientific research
Who should attend?
This session is useful for professionals involved in hazard assessment, especially those with interest in carcinogenicity, evidence synthesis and classification.
By the end of the seminar, you will:
• Understand how coordinated European initiatives are developing AOPs and exploring predictivity of non-animal methods relevant to endocrine disruption.
• Learn about innovative non-animal methods and practical examples from the MERLON project.
• Gain clearer insight into what is needed for these methodologies to enhance regulatory evaluations and improve protection of environment and human health.
