ECHA CHEM tutorial: how to request confidentiality for notifier names under CLP Article 42
In this video, Gerson Marting from ECHA’s chemicals database team explains how to request confidentiality for the notifier name under the revised CLP Regulation, Article 42, which becomes applicable on 1 July 2026.
From that date, the name of each notifier submitting a classification and labelling notification (CLH notification) will be publicly available in the C&L Inventory—unless a valid confidentiality request is made.
What you’ll learn:
• What changes on 1 July 2026 and when notifier names become publicly available
• How group notifications work and when individual member names may appear
• When and why companies can request confidentiality to protect commercial interests
• Where to begin the confidentiality request in IUCLID (Section 1.1 – Legal entity information)
• How to activate the confidentiality flag using the confidentiality icon
• How to complete the additional justification window, including using the justification template
• How to select the correct justification category in the dossier header
• Why both elements—the written justification and justification category—are required for a valid request
• How to use the Validation Assistant to ensure your dossier is ready before submission
This tutorial helps you confidently submit confidentiality requests for notifier names in classification and labelling notifications in ECHA CHEM and IUCLID.
