Young people in Kyrgyzstan leading change through dialogue and community action
Young people in Osh and Batken are working together to strengthen dialogue, address local concerns and shape safer, more supportive communities.
In this video, young women and men involved in the IDem project share how they developed and delivered action plans that respond to the issues they see as most important. Through training on peacebuilding, leadership and mental well‑being, participants built the confidence and skills they needed to work with community members, education bodies and local authorities.
With support from Saferworld and partners, youth groups designed fifteen action plans across Osh and Batken. These focused on themes such as improving mental health support, building trust between generations, preventing harmful practices and creating platforms to amplify young people’s voices. Around 3,000 people took part in activities across both regions.
Many participants have since been invited to contribute to youth councils and continue shaping positive change. Their experience shows how meaningful support and cooperation can help young people influence decisions and strengthen their communities.
