Protecting Dreams: Supporting girls' health in Tanzania

Sara, 20, wanted to be a teacher, but her life took a different path when she became pregnant as a teenager and had a child. But she has learned a lot since then about parenting, running a business, and what she and all girls are capable of and deserve. Now she's got more customers than ever, is happy with her life, and helps other girls chase after their dreams. Sara participates in Plan International Canada and Tanzania's Adolescent Girls' Health and Rights project in partnership with the Government of Canada. In Katavi, Tanzania, where Sara lives, 45% of girls become pregnant while they are teenagers - jeopardizing their health and education and limiting their future options to prosper. The project works with girls, boys, parents, teachers, health professionals, and community leaders to make girls' health a priority and help end child marriage and early pregnancy so girls can thrive.
