At 17, Sharon is back in school – after being forced to drop out.

“I used to live with my mom, but she left me and remarried,” Sharon says. She later moved in with her aunt, who enrolled her in school. When paying for fees and supplies became impossible, Sharon felt she had no choice but to leave school and get married at 14. Later, a friend of her aunt learned Sharon was struggling and urged her aunt to bring her home. Today, Sharon is living with her aunt again and has returned to school. “At first, I felt embarrassed to go back,” Sharon says. “Other students would make fun of me for being a married woman coming back to school.” Filmed by Deo Kuset, a former Plan International sponsored child, this short documentary follows Sharon as she begins again: navigating family, community, and the challenges of returning to class. Sharon is one of more than 110,000 out‑of‑school children and adolescents who have returned to class through the RISING project, led by Plan International in partnership with the Education Above All Foundation and the Strømme Foundation, with support from Canadian donors. #GirlsEducation #EducationChangesLives #DocumentaryFilm #RealStories
