How can fragile countries mitigate climate risks?
The impact of climate change on land, seas and oceans is already well documented. Urgent action is needed to reverse the damage that has been done (through mitigation efforts), while longer-term planning is essential to prepare communities for future climate and environmental hazards and to limit their potential impact (through adaptation efforts).
Both mitigation and adaptation efforts can be difficult to implement in countries with limited financial and structural resources, particularly those facing high to extreme fragility, as defined by the OECD - OCDE fragility framework.
Development co-operation plays a key role in supporting these countries and ensuring the sustainability of their strategies and policies.
These issues are explored in this video featuring Antón Leis García, Director General of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation, and Maria Michela Corvino, Earth Observation Engineer at the@EuropeanSpaceAgency.
