Gathering data on unmet need for health and social care in older populations is important to guide health systems reforms around population ageing. A key partner for the WHO Centre for Health Development (WHO Kobe Centre – WKC) is Professor Shereen Hussein of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, who chairs the CARETRACK Consortium that WKC helped to establish to advance measurement of unmet health and social care needs of older populations for policy and practice. She also leads MENARAH, a network on healthy ageing research and policy across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. In June 2024, the WHO Centre for Health Development (WHO Kobe Centre – WKC) held a meeting with WHO technical staff from headquarters, regional offices and academics from around the world to explore the emerging field of understanding unmet care needs of older persons.
