What does inclusion look like on the road to sustainable mobility? In Mérida, Yucatán — where IETRAM, the first 100% electric BRT system in southeastern Mexico, is rolling out — women like Flor Yanue García Reyes are taking the lead. In a region where women make up only around 10% of the transport workforce, Flor is breaking barriers and reminding us that electric mobility is more than a technical upgrade: it’s a chance to build a system that listens to the people who make it work. From safer, more comfortable vehicles to better-lit bus stops and schedules that consider care responsibilities, the transition is bringing visibility to women’s needs as drivers, planners, and passengers. As one of the network cities of the TUMI E-Bus Mission, Mérida received technical support to prepare for this shift.
