No. 16 EN | DO ALL ROADS LEAD TO UHC?

When it comes to UHC, many countries face the same strategic question: what is the best path, and will the road chosen lead to UHC? Each country has its own starting point and priorities, and each country’s path may be different. Some journeys will be more difficult than others, and some choices made today may compromise future options. This webinar provides an opportunity to better organise our collective thinking. After a brief overview of what is globally known, we hear Mauritania's experience in moving towards UHC. We will focus on a common challenge faced by many LMICs: how to integrate the informal sector when a parallel contributory system has already been set up for the formal sector. The Mauritania experience will be enriched with other countries’ struggles and successes. The session is conducted in French, with instant translation into English. AGENDA: • Introduction — Christophe Lemiere (World Bank) • Framing presentation — Bruno Meessen (WHO) • Presentation: Design and implementation of health insurance for the informal sector in Mauritania — Malal Diop, Mauritania • Panel discussion — Polydor Kabila (DRC) and Ponou Armand Kouassi (Côte d'Ivoire); Facilitation: Bruno Meessen • Wrap up — Sophie Faye (WHO)
