Mercator Ocean International and the European Commission have launched the Ocean Prediction for Costa Rica project (2025–2026) to strengthen the country’s ocean digital capabilities and connect it to global ocean prediction networks. OP4CR is a two-year project aimed at strengthening Costa Rica’s capacity to access, use, and develop its own digital resources based on ocean forecasting and related operational services. This project is a collaborative effort between the European Union, Mercator Ocean International, and local Costa Rican partners. It emphasizes co-design with stakeholders to ensure the development of fit-for-purpose tools and services. The project also highlights the European Union’s commitment to fostering international partnerships and supporting Costa Rica in enhancing its ocean capabilities.
