Rowida Tariq Elshafee is a dedicated humanitarian from Sudan. When war broke out in her country in 2023, she and her family were forced to flee their home in the capital, Khartoum. The rest of her family fled to Egypt, but Rowida chose to remain in Sudan to continue her work providing education and psychosocial support to more than 10,000 displaced children and training more than 400 teachers. Rowida received a Women’s Refugee Commission’s 2024 Voices of Courage Award for her commitment to the education and well-being of displaced children and youth.
