Introducing Book Bunk, one of the 5️⃣ finalists for the 2025–2026 WRI Ross Center #PrizeforCities 🏆.
Book Bunk began with a simple but ambitious idea: reclaiming neglected libraries in Nairobi, 🇰🇪, as “Palaces for the People” — free, trusted civic spaces at the heart of community life.
To date, Book Bunk’s library programs have:
🏛️ Revitalized 2 libraries with African literature & green spaces
🥘 Provided 140k+ free meals to local children
🧑🏫 Created 93 jobs, including 21 permanent positions
🛍️ Supported 400+ local vendors & small businesses
📕 Served ~200k visitors
By transforming these lost spaces, Book Bunk is bridging Nairobi’s past with a more hopeful future, where public institutions serve all residents in more ways than one.
