Restoring soil, restoring lives: India’s Natural Farming breakthrough
Across the lush green landscapes of Andhra Pradesh, a quiet transformation is underway. Once facing severe soil degradation, biodiversity loss, and rising farming costs, millions of farmers are now turning to natural solutions to restore their land and their livelihoods.
Through the Andhra Pradesh Community Managed Natural Farming (APCNF) initiative, supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), traditional knowledge is being combined with science to rebuild soil health, protect biodiversity, and reduce dependence on chemical inputs.
By replacing synthetic fertilizers with natural bio-stimulants and embracing crop diversity, farmers are breaking free from cycles of debt and declining yields. The results are powerful: improved soil fertility, increased incomes, and more resilient farming systems in the face of climate change.
This growing movemen already reaching over 3 million farmers shows that agriculture can work in harmony with nature, not against it.
