Rehema is one of the 155 Kenyan small firm owners we got to know during our year-long study to understand barriers facing small business owners. Rehema is a stability entrepreneur. She wants to grow her business, but in a slow and steady way, without taking on more risk than she already faces. Her income is tied to the seasons, but also fluctuates in unpredictable ways. She finds ways to keep her business afloat, but doesn’t have a source of working capital that she can rely on.
