Preventing and Managing Nuclear Crises in the 21st Century
On Wednesday, April 30, the Institute for Security and Technology (IST) and the Vienna Center for Non-Proliferation and Disarmament (VCDNP) co-hosted a panel discussion at the 2024 Preparatory Committee for the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) at the UN Headquarters in New York. The event was sponsored the governments of Switzerland and Germany, which both fund and politically sponsor IST’s CATALINK initiative, and will investigate how states can more readily reduce the risks of and ultimately prevent nuclear crises and conflicts in the 21st century.
Germany’s Acting Federal Government Commissioner for Disarmament and Arms Control Amb. Susanne Riegraf and Switzerland’s Ambassador to Geneva-based International Organizations Amb. Julien Thöni opened the event, after which Reto Wollenmann moderated a discussion featuring insights from IST’s Philip Reiner, Sylvia Mishra, and Sahil V. Shah, as well as VCDNP’s Nikolai Sokov.
