How Delhi's construction labourers survive toxic air and anti-pollution curbs

Delhi thrives on the labour of nearly 1 million migrant construction workers from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and beyond. They build the city’s homes, roads, malls, and flyovers day and night. But every winter, the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage III kicks in, forcing a sudden stop to most construction activities. This shutdown leaves hundreds of thousands of workers jobless with little to no security. The Migration Story visits labour chowks in Rohini and Gautam Nagar, where workers gather in the cold, waiting hours for day jobs—most returning home empty-handed. They face a double whammy in the form of toxic air and joblessness. Reported by Vipul Singh
