Across Delhi, migrant workers have always struggled to access LPG cylinders for cooking. They find it extremely difficult to register themselves on the government portal to get a cylinder under legal provisions. Bureaucratic hurdles, lack of documents, limitation of the schemes and other challenges push them to the black market to buy cylinders, but at a heavy price. With the onset of US/Israel – Iran war and the ensuing LPG crisis in India, the already precarious situation of the migrant workers turned worse. The prices sky-rocketed, supplies turned dry and the migrant communities were left to face the worst. While government has been promoting a switch to piped natural gas, electric stoves as well as free trade LPG cylinders, the migrant workers either have no knowledge about the same or are unable to afford it. While they are struggling to make the ends meet in the city, they also seem to find the return to their native places a difficult choice to make as there are no jobs there. In this video The Migration Story speaks to the migrant workers residing in the city of Delhi about the ongoing LPG crisis and what the future looks like if the crisis continues.
