Shifting Narratives: How can storytelling build a more nuanced narrative on migration?

Migration is often coloured as a negative phenomenon, one that is often associated with distress and forced choice. These narratives around migration gets repeatedly published in various forms across platforms. But under good circumstances, migration is also aspirational and is considered as an informed step towards a better life. Stories of migration are often complex and requires sensitive, humane approach while documenting. Similarly, it requires nuanced storytelling while bringing out these stories for the public. At Groundswell, an annual convening by The Migration Story, the panel “Shifting Narratives: How can storytelling build a more nuanced narrative on migration?” discussed the existing challenges in storytelling, be it field reporting, research, cinema and community radio, while also exploring how various of the panelists experimented through their storytelling to bring out nuanced perspectives on migration.
