A report by Jyoti Yadav for The Migration Story on the continued plight of 137 rescued bonded labourers in Bihar's Gaya district has led to administrative action. The story revealed that although the workers had been rescued from brick kilns, many were still waiting for their release certificates—a crucial document required to access rehabilitation and compensation under the law.
Following the publication of "The Inheritance of Debt: Bihar's Musahars Still Marry, Give Birth in Bondage," and repeated follow ups with concerned authorities, the state labour department sprang into action and issued release certificates to the rescued workers.
