Bridging sectors for global health impact | One Dose, One Cure
🛖 In remote communities affected by sleeping sickness, reaching patients isn’t easy. As Trevor Mundel, President of Global Health at the Gates Foundation, says: ‘People in remote regions, you only reach them once.’
💉 Back then, a diagnosis meant weeks away from your home to receive treatment. A treatment so toxic it killed 1 in 20 patients.
💊 Today, acoziborole cures sleeping sickness with a one-day treatment course of three pills and is effective for even the most severe cases.
🤝 The Gates Foundation helped make this possible by investing early in the science behind acoziborole and bridging partnerships with industry, including Sanofi, who stayed the course to bring it forward.
🙏 This is what it takes to deliver innovation where it’s needed most: long-term commitment, collaboration across sectors, and a focus on access from the start.
