CREA’s Gender and WASH team organised the 10-day SELF Academy 2024 in New Delhi (June 4–14), bringing together 26 young women from sanitation-worker families across Delhi, Bhopal, and Rajasthan. Designed exclusively for daughters of sanitation workers, the Storytelling, Expression, Leadership & Freedom (SELF) Academy supports young women to break intergenerational caste-based sanitation work through skill-building, confidence-building, and career guidance. Through sessions with feminist leaders and practitioners, participants explored gender, rights, bodily autonomy, leadership, and negotiation skills; imagining futures beyond restrictive social norms.
