Sunshine Stories – Solar power for clean water and health in off-grid Daurawa village, Nigeria

Daurawa is a remote, off-grid village in Kano State where residents previously relied on contaminated river water shared with animals, posing serious health risks. Limited access to electricity further constrained essential services, including healthcare and sanitation.

Together with the people of Daurawa, local NGO CREACC-NG and EKOenergy designed a plan to install a solar energy system that now powers critical infrastructure in the community. The system supplies electricity to a water pump delivering clean drinking water. It also supports local businesses and electrifies the village’s first healthcare centre.
