On 21 October 2025, the Government of Belgium, the Medicines Patent Pool and the World Health Organization co-hosted this high-level mRNA Technology Transfer Programme event in Brussels. Belgium has been a steadfast champion of equitable access to vaccines and has provided crucial political and financial support to the Programme since its inception. Belgium underscores its commitment to strengthening pandemic preparedness and supporting sustainable regional vaccine production by convening global leaders, funders, and partners in the historic Egmont Palace. This gathering will provide an opportunity not only to showcase the achievements of the Programme but also to highlight Belgium’s leadership in driving innovation and collaboration for global health security.
The Programme has benefited from strong political and financial backing, mobilising $123 million in funding from diverse contributors, including #Belgium, #Canada, ELMA Foundation, the #European Commission, #France, #Germany, #Norway, SAMRC, and #South Africa. This funding has catalysed additional investments; for instance, in the AFRO region, every dollar contributed by the Programme has triggered an estimated $17 in additional investments from regional stakeholders and public health institutions.
