Two organisations. One combination. One outcome. At the June 2026 @UNDP Executive Board, UNDP Administrator and UNCDF Managing Director Alexander De Croo was direct about what it takes to unlock the private investment needed for development: 💬 "The combination of what both organizations have to offer — UNDP, which is leading on policy derisking, and UNCDF, which is able to provide guarantees to early stage investment — that combination is really a strong combination of what is necessary to unleash the private investment capital that is necessary to attain those development outcomes." Development outcomes are built partly on public funding. But for a large part, they depend on capital coming from the private sector. The barrier is not the money. It is the mechanism. ➡️ UNDP builds the enabling environment by removing the policy and regulatory uncertainty that prevents investors from moving. ➡️ UNCDF provides guarantees and early-stage instruments that make entry possible in markets where risk is too high for most financial institutions to go first.
